John Lightly is a Battalion Chief for a career urban fire department in Northeast Ohio. He has been a member of the fire service since 1994, getting his start as a volunteer in a small rural department. He is a State of Ohio Paramedic, Fire Instructor, Live Fire Instructor, an Incident Safety Officer, and a Fire Officer 1 and 2.
John has been part of the instructor cadre for Insight Training since 2019 and is certified as a Level 1 Thermographer. He is passionate about teaching both line firefighters and Incident Commanders to utilize thermal imaging in order to better understand the fire behaviors they are encountering and thus make more informed decisions for their incident action plans.
